Albania Alarm from the Champions League: AEK Win as Strakosha Watches from the Stands
The Albanian national team goalkeeper missed AEK Athens’ 1–0 victory over LASK because of an undisclosed physical problem. Alberto Brignoli replaced him in goal, while Stavros Pilios played the full 90 minutes.
AEK Athens began their UEFA Champions League league-phase campaign with a victory, but the European night also produced some worrying news for the Albanian national team.
The Greek side defeated LASK 1–0 at the AEK Arena, while Thomas Strakosha watched the match from the stands because of a physical issue whose exact nature has not yet been disclosed.

The Greek side created further opportunities to extend its advantage but could not find a second goal. Luka Jović had a goal disallowed for offside, while AEK protected its narrow lead until the final whistle.
The 1–0 victory gave AEK three important points at the start of the Champions League league phase.
Pilios Plays the Full 90 Minutes
Unlike Strakosha, defender Stavros Pilios started the match and remained on the field for the full 90 minutes.
He delivered a solid performance at left-back and helped AEK keep a clean sheet. Pilios is listed by UEFA with Albanian sporting nationality, adding another Albanian connection to AEK’s Champions League night.
Concern for Maran
Strakosha’s absence is also a warning sign for Albania head coach Rolando Maran and his technical staff.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper is one of the most experienced players in the Albanian national team, and his condition will be closely monitored over the coming days.
