Albania Women’s National Team Begins Mission for the 2027 World Cup – Ready for Crucial Matches Against Czechia and Montenegro

The Albania women’s national football team has officially begun preparations for its final two qualification matches for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, fixtures that will be decisive for the Red and Blacks’ fate in League B Group B1. Under the guidance of head coach Armir Grima, the squad has gathered in Shkodër, where it completed its first training session ahead of clashes against Czechia and Montenegro.

The atmosphere inside the Albanian camp is positive and full of determination, as the coaching staff immediately got to work to restore the team’s competitive rhythm. The opening training session focused mainly on physical preparation and technical-tactical drills, with the aim of building chemistry and coordination before the upcoming official matches.

However, coach Grima did not yet have the full squad available, as several players were still involved in the Albanian women’s league final between Vllaznia and Apolonia. The group is expected to be completed later this evening, while preparations will continue at full intensity from tomorrow onward.

Albania will first face Czechia away from home on June 5 at 17:30 in a highly important encounter. Four days later, on June 9 at 19:00, the Red and Blacks will host Montenegro at the “Loro Boriçi” Stadium in what is expected to be a decisive battle for the final standings in the group.

Albania’s qualification campaign has experienced both highs and lows. The team started brilliantly with a 2-1 away victory over Montenegro, where captain Megi Doçi emerged as the hero by scoring both decisive goals. The following matches proved more difficult, with defeats against Czechia and Wales, yet the squad never lost the fighting spirit that has defined its journey throughout the campaign.

One of the team’s strongest assets remains the core of players from Vllaznia, combined with footballers competing abroad. Names such as Megi Doçi, Alma Hilaj, Ezmiralda Franja, Arbiona Bajraktari, Fortesa Berisha, and Arbenita Curraj are once again expected to lead Albania in these decisive fixtures.

The match against Czechia is viewed as an opportunity for redemption and a chance to respond after the defeat in the first meeting, while the clash against Montenegro is being treated as a “final” for third place in the group — a position that would secure Albania’s place in League B and keep alive hopes of advancing to the playoff stage.

The countdown has begun in Shkodër. Albania’s women’s national team is ready to fight until the very end for the dream of reaching the 2027 World Cup.
