AMAD STRIKES LATE TO SEAL DRAMATIC IVORY COAST VICTORY

By FIFA @ ELITE SPORT VIZION ·

Philadelphia, June 14, 2026 – A dramatic 90th-minute goal from Amad Diallo gave Ivory Coast a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ecuador in their opening Group E match at the FIFA World Cup 2026™. The Manchester United winger came off the bench to become the hero for Les Éléphants, sending them to the top of the group standings.

The match at Philadelphia Stadium was one of the most entertaining contests of the tournament so far, despite remaining scoreless for almost the entire game. Both teams created numerous chances, while the woodwork was struck four times during a thrilling encounter.

Ecuador looked the more dangerous side in the first half. John Yeboah rattled the crossbar with a powerful long-range effort, while Alan Minda was denied moments later when his curling shot also crashed against the bar. Early in the second half, captain Enner Valencia added to Ecuador’s frustration by striking the post from a tight angle.

Ivory Coast, however, gradually grew into the game and found inspiration through teenage sensation Yan Diomande. At just 19 years and 212 days old, he became the first teenager ever to represent Ivory Coast in a FIFA World Cup match. His pace, creativity, and direct attacking play constantly troubled the Ecuadorian defense.

As the match progressed, Emerse Faé’s side began to dominate possession and push forward in search of a winner. Just when the contest appeared destined for a goalless draw, Amad Diallo delivered the decisive moment. In the 90th minute, the substitute calmly guided a precise finish into the bottom corner, sparking wild celebrations among the Ivorian players and supporters.

Ivory Coast manager Emerse Faé celebrated passionately on the touchline after the final whistle. He praised his team's determination and resilience in overcoming Ecuador’s early pressure and ending the South Americans’ impressive 19-match unbeaten run.

“We are not here just to participate. We believe we can go far in this tournament,” Faé said after the match.

Ecuador’s camp was left disappointed after controlling large portions of the game and creating several clear chances. Their inability to convert opportunities ultimately proved costly as a single defensive lapse allowed Diallo to steal all three points.
