BREAKING: UEFA Calls on Gianni Infantino to Resign as FIFA President

Gianni Infantino is facing the most serious political crisis of his tenure as FIFA president after UEFA reportedly called on him to resign.

According to The Telegraph, European football’s governing body has demanded that Infantino voluntarily step down from his position following the controversial proposal to sell a stake in FIFA competitions—including the World Cup—to private investors.

UEFA welcomed FIFA’s decision to abandon the plan but made it clear that withdrawing the proposal would not be enough to end the dispute.

“We must identify those responsible and hold them to account,” UEFA said in its strongly worded official statement.

The European governing body accused FIFA of pursuing secret plans, using accelerated deadlines and failing to provide the transparency required for a decision that could have transformed the future of world football.

“That review should be thorough and fundamental. No option should be off the table,” UEFA warned.

The statement also declared that FIFA’s current leadership had lost the confidence of UEFA and many other members of the global football family.

According to reports, all 55 UEFA member associations are prepared to support further action against Infantino if he refuses to resign voluntarily.

At the center of the controversy was a proposal to establish a new commercial company known as FIFA Forward Enterprise.

The company was reportedly valued at approximately $20 billion and would have managed the commercial activities and revenues connected to the World Cup and other FIFA competitions.

The plan reportedly included selling a 20 percent stake in the venture to private investors.

Coordinated opposition from UEFA and its national associations, together with criticism from other confederations and football officials, eventually forced Infantino to withdraw the proposal.

UEFA accused the FIFA president of failing to honor his previous promises concerning transparency, accountability and the use of FIFA’s money for football development.

It also raised questions about FIFA’s financial reserves of more than $5 billion, arguing that more of those resources should be invested in national associations, grassroots football and the wider development of the game.

UEFA will now work with its member associations, other confederations and football stakeholders to investigate how the proposal was developed and prevent a similar situation from happening again.

Any attempt to remove a sitting FIFA president would require a formal process and significant support from national associations outside Europe.

However, the political pressure surrounding Infantino has increased dramatically, and his position at the head of world football is now under unprecedented scrutiny.

The controversial project may have been abandoned, but the battle over FIFA’s leadership, transparency and control of football’s wealth has only just begun.
