Captain Mbappé Writes to the French People: This Pain Will Last for a Long Time
We are not bringing home the team trophy. It hurts, and it will continue to hurt for some time. I will not lie to you about that. ❤️🩹 I am proud to have won the Golden Boot, but it would have been so much better if we had won the trophy as well.
Kylian Mbappé has delivered an emotional message to the French supporters following the conclusion of the World Cup.
The France captain admitted that failing to win the trophy continues to hurt him, despite his individual success.
“It hurts, and it is a pain that will last for a long time. I am proud to have won the Golden Boot, but it would have been much better if we had won the trophy as well,” Mbappé wrote.
The forward thanked his teammates and the supporters, emphasizing that France gave everything throughout the tournament and that this team’s story is not over.
Kylian Mbappé’s Emotional Letter to the French People 💙💌
“Thank you!
A month of emotions. A month in which we pushed ourselves beyond our limits. A month of pride in wearing the colours of France. 🇫🇷
We are not bringing home the team trophy. It hurts, and it will continue to hurt for some time. I will not lie to you about that. ❤️🩹
I am proud to have won the Golden Boot, but it would have been so much better if we had won the trophy as well.
Perhaps we owed you a better ending. But we cannot always choose how the story ends. We choose what we put into it, and we gave everything. That is something we can be proud of.
Thank you to my teammates. Without their work, their runs and their passes, without the team spirit that carried us from the first match to the last, I would never have been able to score so many goals. This award belongs to the team just as much as it belongs to me.
As a child, I dreamed of playing in at least one World Cup. I have now played in three, won one, and this year I had the honour of competing as captain. I will never forget it. 💭✨
You never abandoned us, even during the most difficult moments, including when we deserved your support the least. We wrote this story together—with millions of hands, not only the eleven players on the pitch—all united by the same passion.
Football, at its heart, remains a game. It is a game that we take very seriously and spend our entire lives trying to master, but it is still a game, with the same simple rules that have remained unchanged since we first began playing: a ball, a goal and the desire to score. That is why it brings all of us together around the same passion.
This World Cup ends here, but the story continues. There will be other matches and other summer or winter nights when we will gather again around the same game, with the same passion still burning inside us. Our story together is not over yet.
Thank you for everything!
Kylian Mbappé”
