EXCLUSIVE: Albanian National Team Contacts Anes Meliqi

The Albanian national team is monitoring another talented Albanian footballer playing outside the country. The player in question is Shkëndija defender Anes Meliqi, who could wear Albania’s red-and-black jersey in the future.

According to information published by infOSport.mk, officials from the Albanian Football Federation have already contacted the 20-year-old center-back to discuss the possibility of representing Albania.

Born in Skopje on January 9, 2006, Meliqi is regarded as one of the most promising footballers of his generation. He stands 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 meters) tall and plays as a center-back.

The Shkëndija defender has represented North Macedonia at every youth level, from U16 to U21. He has registered 14 appearances and one goal for the U21 national team.

However, Meliqi has not yet made his senior debut for North Macedonia. This leaves open the possibility of him choosing Albania, provided that he meets FIFA’s eligibility requirements and accepts the Albanian Football Federation’s project.

At this stage, this is only initial contact, not a final decision or an official agreement.

His addition would represent an important investment in the future of Albania’s defense. Meliqi possesses impressive physical qualities, international experience at youth level and valuable playing time with Shkëndija, including appearances in European competitions.
