Fenerbahçe are preparing to launch an offensive to sign Rafael Leão from AC Milan. Club officials are expected to travel to Milan next week to begin formal negotiations with the Rossoneri.

Wednesday, July 29, is an important date for Fenerbahçe. The Turkish side will face Górnik Zabrze away from home with a place in the Champions League play-offs at stake, having won the first leg 1–0.

The possibility of playing in Europe’s most prestigious club competition is considered a potentially decisive factor in convincing Leão to move to Istanbul.

Fenerbahçe Dream of a Greenwood–Muriqi–Leão Front Three

Fenerbahçe’s ambition is to build a spectacular attacking trio featuring Mason Greenwood, Vedat Muriqi and Rafael Leão. The first two signings have already been completed, while the Portuguese star represents by far their most difficult target.

Agent Jorge Mendes has been working for several days to establish contact between the Turkish club and Milan. Meanwhile, other Italian intermediaries are attempting to convince Leão of the strength of Fenerbahçe’s sporting project and financial offer.

Fenerbahçe are prepared to offer the forward a salary worth up to €12 million per season, including bonuses.

According to Calciomercato.com, members of the Turkish club’s management will travel to Milan for direct talks with the Rossoneri. Fenerbahçe’s objective is to negotiate down Milan’s asking price of €60 million.

The Turkish club has denied reports that it presented an overall package worth €100 million, including both the transfer fee and the player’s contract.

Galatasaray Propose a Loan With an Option to Buy

Galatasaray have also entered the race for Leão, creating an unusual Istanbul transfer-market derby.

The Turkish champions initially submitted a verbal offer of €30 million, but it was immediately rejected by Milan.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Galatasaray have since proposed signing Leão on loan with an option to buy. Milan, however, continue to demand a permanent transfer.

Tottenham have also identified the Portuguese international as an important potential addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, while the player’s representatives continue to wait for concrete offers from major Spanish clubs.

The final decision is expected to come from Leão himself, who has yet to determine whether he is prepared to continue his career in the Turkish Süper Lig.
