Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2026, turned out to be an unusual one for Igli Tare. The former sporting director of Lazio and Milan was in Milan to attend the funeral of Rossoneri legend Franco Baresi, held at the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio.

During his return journey to Rome by train, the former Albania international experienced an unpleasant incident. Taking advantage of a momentary distraction, someone stole his bag from the overhead luggage rack.

After arriving at Roma Termini station and realizing that the bag was missing, Tare immediately contacted officers from the Lazio Railway Police.

Using footage from the station’s surveillance cameras, the officers identified and detained the suspected thief within minutes. The bag and all the belongings inside it were recovered intact and returned to Tare.

The Italian State Police later shared details of the incident on social media.

“Unfortunately, on a train, a brief moment of distraction can sometimes be enough to result in an unpleasant surprise, as happened to Igli Tare, whose bag was stolen from the overhead luggage rack. Fortunately, as soon as he stepped off the train at Roma Termini, the sporting executive immediately contacted the Railway Police. Thanks to surveillance footage, officers were able to identify the person responsible for the theft within minutes,” the statement said.

The suspect was arrested, while the bag was safely returned to Igli Tare. What initially appeared to be a very bad day for the former Albania captain ended in the best possible way, thanks to the swift intervention of the Italian authorities.
