Shamrock Rovers are a professional football club based in Tallaght, Dublin. Founded in 1899, they are widely considered the most successful club in the history of football in the Republic of Ireland.
The club are known as “The Hoops” because of their iconic green-and-white hooped shirts. They play their home matches at Tallaght Stadium, which has a capacity of approximately 10,500 spectators.

An Opponent With European Experience
Shamrock Rovers have an important history in UEFA competitions. During the 2011–12 season, they became the first Irish club to reach the group stage of the UEFA Europa League after eliminating Partizan Belgrade.
In the 2024–25 season, Rovers made history again by becoming the first team from the Republic of Ireland to reach the knockout stage of a major European competition.
The club’s European journey began in the 1957–58 season, when Shamrock Rovers faced Manchester United in the European Cup.
Their 2026–27 European Campaign
Shamrock Rovers began their current European campaign in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.
After losing the first leg 2–0 against Floriana, the Irish side produced a remarkable comeback in Dublin, winning 5–1 and advancing 5–3 on aggregate.
In the second qualifying round, Rovers were eliminated by Ararat-Armenia. They lost the away leg 2–0 before winning 2–1 at Tallaght Stadium, but the Armenian side progressed 3–2 on aggregate.
Following their elimination from the Champions League, Shamrock Rovers dropped into the third qualifying round of the Europa League, where they were drawn against the Albanian champions.
