Myrto Uzuni Named to the MLS Team of the Matchday
Austin FC
Myrto Uzuni has officially been named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Matchday bench following his outstanding performance and decisive goal for Austin FC.
In the first match after the six-week World Cup break, the Albanian forward showed exactly why he holds a Designated Player spot at the Texas-based club.
In a difficult match delayed by extreme temperatures of around 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38°C), Uzuni scored a spectacular goal in the 86th minute.
His strike secured Austin FC’s 3-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders and ended the club’s four-match winless streak.
Uzuni’s Performance by the Numbers
During his 90 minutes on the field, the Albanian international recorded impressive statistics:
1 goal—his sixth of the 2026 MLS regular season 3 shots—the joint-highest total on the team 2 chances created for his teammates 85% passing accuracy 4 of 5 ground duels won 3 fouls drawn
Uzuni was a constant threat to the opposition’s defense, using his speed, physical strength, and intelligent movement to create space in the attacking third.
The victory took Austin FC to 17 points. Although the team remains near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, Uzuni’s return to the scoresheet is a highly encouraging sign for the second half of the season.
Particularly promising was the connection between Uzuni and 18-year-old academy talent Ervin Torres. The youngster provided the excellent assist for the winning goal, offering an exciting glimpse of a potentially productive attacking partnership for Austin FC.
