Obrigado… It’s Time to Hang Up the Boots” — Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Retirement

By Elite Sport Vizion ·

One of the greatest careers in football history is approaching its conclusion.

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the 2026–27 campaign could be his final season as a professional footballer.

In an interview with Vogue, the 41-year-old Portuguese icon admitted that the moment to say goodbye to the game may not be far away.

“This will probably be my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said.

However, the superstar has not officially announced his retirement. His use of the word “probably” suggests that a final decision may depend on how the upcoming season unfolds.

Ronaldo also revealed that he has already planned his life after football. He hopes to devote more time to his family, travel, businesses and other personal interests.

“I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy. Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one,” he explained.

After approximately 25 years of sacrifice, goals, trophies and records, Cristiano appears ready to begin the final chapter of his extraordinary journey.

From Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, from Real Madrid to Juventus and eventually Al-Nassr, CR7 has left an unforgettable mark everywhere he has played.

He has won five Ballon d’Or awards, lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy five times and led Portugal to its historic European Championship triumph in 2016.

With 976 official goals for club and country, Ronaldo will attempt to reach the legendary milestone of 1,000 career goals during what could be his final season.

He remains under contract with Al-Nassr and is expected to compete in the upcoming Saudi Pro League campaign.

The farewell is not official yet, but Ronaldo’s words sound like one final warning to football supporters around the world:

“Obrigado, football… the time to hang up the boots is approaching.”

If this truly proves to be his final season, the football world must prepare to say goodbye to a phenomenon who transformed ambition, hard work and discipline into an immortal legacy.
