Roma Close to a Major Signing: €35 Million for Santiago Castro

AS Roma are close to reaching an agreement with Bologna for the transfer of Santiago Castro, the young Argentine striker who has become one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s primary attacking targets.

The capital club are prepared to invest approximately €35 million in the forward. Bologna are reportedly demanding around €40 million, but negotiations between the two clubs are continuing as they work toward a final agreement.

Castro has already approved the move to Rome. A contract until 2031 is reportedly ready, with the striker expected to earn approximately €2.2 million per season.

Gasperini has also given the transfer his full approval. The Roma coach views Castro as an ideal alternative to Donyell Malen in the club’s attacking department.

The Argentine is highly regarded for his intensity, mobility and ability to play with his back to goal—qualities that fit perfectly with Gasperini’s tactical approach.

Dovbyk Could Be Included in the Deal

One possibility being discussed is the inclusion of Artem Dovbyk in the operation. The Ukrainian striker is reportedly not part of Gasperini’s plans, and Roma are looking to move him during the summer transfer window.

Roma could send Dovbyk to Bologna on loan, reducing the amount of money required to sign Castro. The Ukrainian would also offer Bologna an immediate replacement for the Argentine striker.

Bologna appreciate Dovbyk’s profile, but the player has not yet fully approved a move to Emilia-Romagna. Fiorentina and several Spanish clubs are also reportedly interested in him.

According to other reports, however, the two negotiations could proceed separately. Roma may complete Castro’s permanent transfer regardless of Dovbyk’s future.

Decisive Hours Ahead

Officials from both clubs are discussing the bonuses and final payment structure. Roma want to complete the deal quickly to prevent other clubs from entering the race.

If a final agreement is reached, Castro’s medical examinations could be scheduled within the next few hours.

The Argentine’s arrival would represent one of Roma’s most significant moves of the summer transfer window. Gasperini believes Castro can become a key part of the attack and one of the leading figures in the club’s new project.
