Samuele Sina: The 19-Year-Old Who Bypassed the U-21s and Knocked Directly on the Senior National Team’s Door

Samuele Sina is one of the most interesting names on Albania’s latest squad list. At only 19 years old, the Union Brescia defender has received his first call-up from head coach Rolando Maran, moving directly from Albania’s youth teams into the senior national side.

Sina was born on February 14, 2007, in Iseo, Italy. Standing 1.89 metres tall, he plays primarily as a centre-back, although he can also operate on the right side of a three-man defence.

His physical presence, aerial ability and versatility across several defensive positions are among the qualities that have attracted the attention of Albania’s coaching staff.

Developed in Italian Football

Samuele Sina began his journey in the Italian academy system. He has been part of the youth setups at Inter, Union Brescia and FeralpiSalò, where he learned the foundations of an organised style of football focused heavily on tactical discipline.

During the 2025–2026 season, he was loaned to Ospitaletto, where he made 24 appearances and gained valuable experience ahead of his transition into professional football.

After completing his loan spell, Sina returned to Union Brescia and began the 2026–2027 season in excellent form. The Albanian defender has attracted attention not only for his defensive work but also for his contribution in the opposition’s penalty area, scoring twice in the opening matches of the campaign.

One of those goals was particularly dramatic. Sina scored in the 99th minute of a 1–0 victory over Pergolettese, securing three important points for his team.

From the Youth Teams Directly to the Senior Side

Sina’s connection with the red-and-black shirt is not new. He has previously represented Albania at U-17 and U-19 level, gaining international experience with the country’s youth teams.

What makes his latest selection particularly notable is that the 19-year-old has not played for Albania’s U-21 side. His performances in Italy convinced Rolando Maran to bring him directly into the senior squad.

That does not mean Sina has immediately secured a place in the starting eleven. However, joining the senior national team gives him the opportunity to train alongside experienced defenders such as Berat Gjimshiti, Ardian Ismajli, Elseid Hysaj and Arlind Ajeti.

For a player of only 19, that experience could prove extremely valuable for the next stage of his development.

An Investment in Albania’s Future

Albania must gradually prepare the successors to its current generation of defenders. For that reason, Sina’s inclusion can be viewed not only as a reward for his recent form but also as a long-term investment.

He is young, physically strong, competes in a tactically demanding league such as Serie C and still has considerable room for improvement. His call-up shows that Albania’s coaching staff is closely monitoring young Albanian talents developing abroad.

Samuele Sina has taken his first major step. Now he must demonstrate that he is ready to seize this opportunity and earn a permanent place in Albania’s defence.
