Spain continue to rewrite football history at the FIFA World Cup 2026™, not only with their attractive attacking football but also with a defensive record that now stands as the greatest in World Cup history. Following their commanding 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals, La Roja set a new benchmark for defensive excellence.

The Spanish national team has become the first nation ever to keep six clean sheets in a single FIFA World Cup, conceding just one goal in seven matches played across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous record held by France (1998), Italy (2006), and Spain themselves (2010), all of whom conceded two goals during their World Cup-winning campaigns.

An Unbreakable Defense

Spain's defensive masterclass was once again on full display in the semi-final against France at Dallas Stadium. Goalkeeper Unai Simón, together with a rock-solid back four, completely neutralized one of the tournament's most dangerous attacking sides, allowing France virtually no clear scoring opportunities.

Spain's incredible run without conceding a goal reached 650 consecutive minutes, setting a new FIFA World Cup record.

Only One Goal Conceded

The only goal Spain have conceded throughout the tournament came in the quarter-final against Belgium, when Charles De Ketelaere equalized in the 41st minute. Apart from that moment, Unai Simón's goal has remained untouched throughout the competition.

If Spain keep another clean sheet in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final and lift the trophy, they will become the World Cup champions with the fewest goals conceded in tournament history, finishing the competition with just one goal allowed.

Luis de la Fuente's tactical organization, Spain's disciplined backline, and the outstanding performances of goalkeeper Unai Simón have been the foundation of La Roja's success. Spain now stand just 90 minutes away from winning their second FIFA World Cup title while setting what could become one of the greatest defensive records in football history.
